Hawker Racing was fortunate to look after an original UK based BMW 328 in order to get the detail as correct as possible. The chassis was modified to the exact specification of a 328 and templates and patterns were made from the original UK 328. The body consisted of the correct ash frame but all the body work was handmade in aluminium for lightness and corrosion protection. The idea was to create a long distance usable touring/road car. All of the running gear was overhauled and items unique to the 328 were manufactured.
The only departure from the BMW 328 specification was the fitting of a Bristol engine, aluminium radiation and cooling fan.
The attention to detail was very important and considerable time was spent in manufacturing all the correct door locks, instrumentation, bonnet detail and grilles.
The customer took delivery of the car and it has performed faithfully in the USA and even participated in a couple of races and track events. This car gives the best of both worlds whilst retaining the stunning BMW 328 appearance in every way with the advantage of a light weight aluminium body, completely overhauled engine, gear box and suspension at around half the price of a BMW 328.
We have another project that could be available based on a BMW 316 1937 RHD.
